#shoulddo #noresyneeded #communityrec #went Picnic Helados – My friend and I briefly stopped here for ice cream before strolling down Avenida Francisco Sosa, exploring Santa Catarina (another neighborhood in Coyoacán), as well as the center of Coyoacán and its neighborhoods, including Villa Coyoacán and La Concepción, taking a brief pause at Plaza de la Conchita

#coulddo #noresyneeded #personalfind #went Mercado Del Carmen Coyoacán – After Picnic Helados, Santa Catarina, and central Coyoacán, my friend and I walked through Jardín Hidalgo on our way to the Mercado. I think she may have noticed this food hall when we first arrived at Picnic Helados (they’re right near each other), so we decided to return to where we started for a post-exploration meal (tired and hungry 🙂). My friend loved the food here, especially the tacos she had (I think from a vendor in the back of the hall), and we also briefly stopped for mezcal and tequila tasters at the bar near the entrance of the hall before leaving

#mustdo #needresy #communityrec #missed Museo Frida Kahlo – This popular museum, La Casa Azul, is the former home of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and is dedicated to showcasing her life and works. Sadly, my friend and I did not book tickets in advance and so did not get to experience the museum. This is your sign to not be like us and make a reservation ahead of time 🙂

#mustdo #noresyneeded #communityrec #went Museo Anahuacalli – A museum founded by famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera and designed in collaboration with architect Juan O’Gorman, this grand museum built from volcanic rock showcases Rivera’s personal collection of pre-Hispanic art. It includes a main building with a stony, cavernous, and labyrinthine design, radiant pockets of light, and a terrace with expansive views of the surrounding neighborhood and beyond, as well as vast surrounding grounds with various plantlife and additional structures, some of which were part of more recent renovations by the Mexican architectural firm Taller de Arquitectura Mauricio Rocha

#mustdo #noresyneeded #communityrec #went UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) – In addition to walking around the heart of the campus with its expansive landscape and intriguing design, check out these other must-sees on this huge campus:

  • Biblioteca Central UNAM – Located near the center of the campus, a can’t-miss building and design
  • Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) — Designed by the acclaimed Mexican architect Teodoro González de León, this expansive museum features engaging exhibitions, including one of my favorite exhibitions ever, showcased during my visit: Children’s Games by Belgian-born, Mexico-based artist Francis Alÿs
  • Espacio Escultórico UNAM – This monumental and awe-inspiring installation combines two of the best (and my favorite) things: art and nature (as you may have guessed from the name of this blog)! Ideated by prominent Mexican sculptor Federico Silva, this monumental artwork consists of striking sculptures that surround petrified lava. It is located within the ecological reserve of UNAM
